Q: In what temperature range can the microbes survive?

A: BioStim® microbes can survive at temperatures between 33º and 180º Fahrenheit. Cases exist where the temperatures have reached 220º Fahrenheit for a very short period of time and had limited effect on the BioStim microbes. BioStim® also is researching microbial strains that are effective in even cooler climates.

Q: What are the active ingredients in BioStim®’s product formulations?

A: BioStim®’s products are composed of 100 percent, multi-strain microbes that occur naturally in the waste environment. BioStim® carefully selected these microbes by examining the natural waste environment and identifying those microbes most efficient at converting FOG into carbon dioxide and water. The microbial formulas do not contain enzymes, surfactants, chemicals, or liquefying agents.

Q: Which facilities benefit the most from BioStim®’s products and services?

Any facility that serves or prepares food is at risk for grease problems (e.g.: restaurants, commercial cafeterias, schools, etc.). Hospitals and medical facilities with kidney dialysis equipment or X-ray machines that give off glycerol also have consistent issues with buildup and clogs in drain lines. The BioStim® service effectively reduces or eliminates the buildup of fats, oils, and grease (FOG) in the case of food service facilities and glycerol in the case of medical facilities.

Q: How much of the drain system will bioremediation impact?
A: BioStim® microbes affect all parts of the drainage system with which they come in contact. The microbial products are strategically placed in drain lines, lift stations, grease traps and injection systems with the greatest potential for problems. Additionally, our manual drain service impacts those areas, from the floor drains to the P-traps, not normally affected by an injection system. This combined treatment program is designed to affect problem areas from the point FOG enters the system until the effluent exits.

Q: How do regulatory agencies feel about bioremediation?

A: Once they realize how the microbes work, where they come from, and the many benefits of bioremediation, regulatory agencies respond quite enthusiastically. Some may be skeptical at first if they have had negative experiences with enzymes and other liquefying agents that allow “pass-through” of FOG to the municipal lift stations and sewer lines. However, once they determine that BioStim’s products eliminate grease at the source, they often become huge advocates.

Q: What is the average length of time a customer keeps our service?

Q: What are B.O.D.'s?

A: Biochemical Oxygen Demand is the amount of chemical oxygen needed to restore water to normal conditions. BOD can be caused by excessive use of soap, and restaurants are often fined for excessive BOD.

Q: Will microbes break down soap buildup as well as grease?

A: Yes, our microbes will degrade any organic carbon source.

Q: What is the time frame for replacing hoses or any other parts or pumps?

A: Most pumps work carefree for years with only the occasional replacement of hoses. The recommended HydroSystem pumps have proven extremely reliable.
